About Quilt Barns

The Athens AM Rotary Club is hosting a bicycle tour of the Athens County Quilt Barns. This event for the whole family is on Saturday July 5, 2008. A special route for this event only has been designed to provide the participants with an enjoyable and beautiful ride through Athens County, with stops at several of the Quilt Barns. You may be asking; What are Quilt Barns?

In an effort to boost awareness of Athens County, Ohio and enhance this region's beauty, a community-based group of visual artists, quilters, property owners and civic and social organizations have been looking to decorate county barns with quilt squares.

The group is working with the Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and is continuing to seeking barn nominations. The barns are decorated with quilt squares painted on 8-foot by 8-foot wooden panels. The goal is to highlight the heritage of Appalachian Ohio.

Similar projects have been done in Adams and Monroe Counties in Ohio, as well as counties in Tennessee, Kentucky and Iowa.

This event is truly “A Patchwork Path Through Athens County”.
